Florida Educational Institute accepts international students.International Admission Requirements
In order to gain admission, students must submit the following items to the Office of Admissions at least thirty (30) days prior to the start of the program.
- A completed FEI application for admission including the $50.00, onetime, non-refundable application fee, payable to Florida Educational Institute by money order or check.
- Supply an official bank letter and financial resources
A financial statement with verification from your bank must reflect adequate funds available to cover all necessary educational expenses, without having to seek outside employment. International students on M1 Student Visas are prohibited from working in the United States.
The official bank letter must be issued on bank letterhead and addressed to Florida Educational Institute indicating that the student, or his/her sponsor, has an account with a minimum of $7,500, or the total cost of the program plus $1,000. The letter must clearly state this money is to be used to support the student while he/she studies at Florida Educational Institute.
The support letter from the sponsor must indicate the name of the student being sponsored and the sponsor's intent to use the funds for the student's expenses at FEI. Acceptable sources of financial resources are savings accounts, checking accounts, money market accounts, and certificates of deposit.
Financial aid is not available to international students. Tuition and fees must be paid in full by the beginning of each program. Should the student choose to establish a payment plan, all tuitions and fees must be paid at least 30 days prior to the end of the program. Certain programs require additional funds.
Official educational transcripts and diploma/graduation documents: All foreign and United States' educational institutions attended must be listed on the application for admission. This includes secondary schools with graduation dates, and all post-secondary education including technical institutes, community colleges, and universities.
High School Graduates must submit original high school transcripts and the diploma/graduation documents. Copies must be certified by the Ministry of Education.
University Students must submit original transcripts with original English translation. Additional high school documents may be required. Acceptance of transfer courses are subject to approval by FEI.
Nursing Students are required to have their nursing education evaluated by one of the U.S Department of Education approved credentialing agencies.
Official transcripts must indicate the name and address of the educational institution, subjects studied, grades earned with grading system explanation, time period for each subject, examinations passed, and Diplomas and Certificates received at all secondary schools, colleges, universities, and professional/technical schools attended.
Proof of English competency is a requirement for students from non-English speaking countries. If the student took his/her coursework in English and used English textbooks, then the English language competency is not required.
- Successful completion of any one of the acceptable English competency examinations. A minimum score of 540 (207 on computerized version and 76 on the Internet based version) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Examination
- A minimum score of 79% on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)
- A minimum MELAB converted score of 79% on the Michigan Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE) Examination
- A minimum score of 725 on Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
- A minimum score of 6.5 overall with a 7.0 on the spoken portion on the academic version of International English Language Testing System (IELTS);
Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20)
The Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) will be provided to each admitted student following completion of all admissions requirements. This document is taken to a United States Embassy or Consulate to obtain an M-1 visa to enter the United States as a student. Documented evidence of financial resources, SEVIS I-901 fee payment receipt, valid passport, and proof of ties to home country, must also be presented at the US Embassy/Consulate.
Arrival Information
- Arrival at the Florida Educational Institute and On-Campus Requirements
International students, after receiving confirmation of acceptance to the school, are to arrive in the United States and the Miami community, approximately one week before the beginning of the intended program. This is necessary in order to be tested, advised, and registered into courses. In addition, this arrival time allows the foreign student to locate suitable housing in the community before the first day of classes.
International students must report to the Office of Admissions no later than 30 days after arriving in the United States, as per immigration guidelines. Upon reporting to the office, students must present their stamped I-20, I-94, and passport. - Health and Accident Insurance
Students must purchase the mandatory health insurance policy available at the Office of Admissions prior to registering for courses. The coverage must be for the duration of the program and be up-to-date in order for a student to continue the program. - Housing in the Community
Florida Educational Institute does not provide student housing facilities for local or international students. However the school will try to assist students to locate housing. International students must bring sufficient funds to pay the monthly housing expenses.
Students must provide their own transportation from the International Airport or other transportation centers. Each student must provide their local address and telephone number to the Office of Admissions immediately upon arrival. Changes of address must also be immediately provided to the school and Immigration authorities for records purposes. - Policies, Regulations and Rules
All students admitted to Florida Educational Institute are required to abide by the rules and regulations of the school, make satisfactory progress towards accomplishing their program objectives, and remain in good academic standing. The school complies fully with the requirements stipulated by the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). - Department of Homeland Security Regulations [DHS]
International students are required to attend school full-time, meaning at least 20 hours a week and make satisfactory progress in each class toward the Certificate's objective, as stipulated in the school issued Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20).
If an international student does not enroll, does not attend full time, maintains poor classroom attendance, makes unsatisfactory academic progress, or becomes employed without proper authorization, he/she will be reported to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as being out of status.
In addition, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services [USCIS] requires that
International students fulfill the following conditions:
pursue a full course of study at the educational institution they are authorized to attend. do not transfer schools or work off campus without United States Citizenship and Immigration Services' permission. keep a current passport that is valid for at least six month into the future. keep a valid I-20. Notify USCIS within 10 days of an address change.
